'Devenney's practice employs primarily digital video and screen-printing. It investigates themes of abandonment, identity, place and memory all of which are united by their specific relationship with time. The video piece features a 'Tin Green Hut', a structure within a military complex outside Derry, Northern Ireland. It has remained in a state of suspension since 1945 when it was abandoned. As with many structures of this kind, whose abandonment happened so swiftly after its purpose had been fulfilled, it has been left to nature and time alone to alter its state. The hut therefore remains a self contained and ever evolving space, which once held such significance for the area it inhabits. Devenney attempts to explore through this video how a space that had such impact on the local history and is a signifier of a landscape anchored in the past, has now become an entity entirely different to its original purpose. Yet by remaining empty it still holds the echoes of what it once was.' Eimear O'Raw Exercises in Folkatronica 2008
